Following our involvement with the Chelsea Flower Show last year, we have been looking for more opportunities for our Members to support local gardens and continue adding to their skills, to the benefit of the community.

That’s why we’re delighted to announce a brand new partnership with The Firs Care Home in Sherwood, made possible by generous funding from Procure-Plus. This collaboration is focused on transforming and maintaining the care home’s gardens, providing a peaceful and engaging outdoor space for residents, while also offering valuable opportunities for our Members to get involved in hands-on community work.

Thriving Gardens for The Firs Residents

With the funding from Procure-Plus, we are able to carry out essential garden development and ongoing maintenance at The Firs Care Home. This project includes not just the upkeep of the outdoor space but also a long-term vision for enhancing the environment for the residents. At the heart of this initiative is our Garden Maintenance Project Leader, Gary, who will lead the efforts to ensure the garden is well-kept and accessible. Gary’s leadership, along with the enthusiasm of our Members, will help breathe new life into the outdoor areas, creating a space that residents can enjoy daily.

Hands-On Involvement for Our Members

Our Members will have the opportunity to visit The Firs regularly to help clean, tend, and organise the garden, gaining valuable skills in garden maintenance and community project management. Not only will this give them practical experience, but it will also allow them to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the care home residents.

The project aims to create a vibrant, welcoming garden that encourages outdoor activities and provides a calm environment for residents to relax and socialise. By working on the garden, our Members will also foster a greater sense of community, forging connections with the care home staff and residents in the process.

Future Plans: Expanding the Project to Include Workshops

We’re not stopping at just transforming the garden. We’re excited to explore the potential of expanding this project into something even more special for the residents of The Firs Care Home.

One idea is to introduce seated exercise workshops, where Members can use their growing knowledge and skills to lead fitness sessions tailored to the residents’ abilities. Additionally, we’re considering the possibility of singing workshops with our choir leader, which would allow the care home residents to engage in music and creativity while fostering a deeper sense of connection within the community.

These workshops would be led by our Members and guided by professional expertise, providing new opportunities for residents to stay active and socially engaged in a supportive, inclusive environment. This expansion would give our Members the chance to further develop their leadership and facilitation skills, while enriching the lives of care home residents.

Looking Ahead

While the project is still in its early stages, we’re incredibly excited about the potential to grow and evolve. Thanks to the support of Procure-Plus, we’re confident that the garden will not only become a beautiful and tranquil space, but also a hub for community interaction and personal development for our Members. Stay tuned for updates on the progress of the Garden Transformation Project at The Firs Care Home – we can’t wait to see where this journey takes us, and how it will continue to benefit both our Members and the residents of The Firs.
